Roland Tiangco

August 31, 2009

My friend wrote about this on his blog yesterday, and I thought it was so awesome that I had to blog about it too! It’s a work by Roland Tiangco that wonderfully creates a physical form out of a powerful thought.

Evil Monito x Big City Forum

August 28, 2009

One of my really good friends from Paris, Abe, invited me to an event that his internship had last week. He interns and writes for the online magazine Evil Monito, who teamed up with Big City Form on August 18th to showcase the art of Shizu Saldamando and Gary Garay at the Evil Monito offices in Echo Park. Big City Forum is a group that puts together events to expose and discuss art from metropolitan and urban communities.  I was only able to stay for half of the event, but in that half I got to see the art of Shizu Saldamando (a fellow Bruin!). She showed a series of ball-point pen drawings on various different materials, including wood panels, handkerchiefs, and bed sheets. I was really impressed by her work and by the event itself. It was definitely something different to do in LA on a Tuesday night.  I was waiting for some photos from the event, but got too impatient, so here are some prints of her art, which are more than sufficient. Oh and read Abe’s stuff on Evil Monito!

Leggo van the man…

August 28, 2009

Got this photo the other day from KD @ Giant BMX, and thought it was a cool addition to the archives of our LUDWIG van library. If YOU have an interesting photo of Beethoven, a statue, painting, etc. submit it to us and we will include your name in an upcoming book we are working on.

Meet Boku.

August 27, 2009

Ludwig crew, meet Boku Kotetsu. We are friends with Boku and met him when we went to the Killer Bee gym to train last year. Boku was really nice and welcomed us with a big smile when we went there. Kengo made the introduction before we went there and they are friends since Kengo has roots with the Purebred gym. Anyhow, I really like Boku’s fighting style, it is exciting and always a good show. He had a really good TKO win over Yutaka at Shooto Tradition Final in May. Check out his link here. Boku wears Black shorts. This photo was re-posted from Rumina’s blog…maybe he took this photo, i know he likes photography, thanks Rumina.

5 things I love (to hate) about the college party scene.

August 27, 2009

Maybe it’s cause I’m about to start my senior year (oh shit I’m old!), maybe it’s cause I’m just an elitist or maybe I’m just fed up with the college scene in general, but wow, have I had enough. My roommates and I went out to the bars in Westwood the other night and here’s a list of things that I’ve noticed about the college party scene:

1. If you don’t know how to play beer pong, flip cup, and king’s cup, you are a social failure.
2. Party playlists currently must include: Keri Hilson’s Knock You Down, Black Eyed Peas’ I’ve Got A Feeling and Boom Boom Pow, and any and every Lady Gaga Song.
3. People actually buy and drink Milwaukee’s Best.
4. Frat boys and Sorority girls that think they’re the shit just because they’re in the Greek system.
5. College bars where sweats and sandals are appropriate and old creepy men hang out and hit on college girls.

Look forward to more “5 things I love (to hate) about the college________.”
