Richard Avedon

July 28, 2009

To continue the theme of influential figures and black and white photos that we have going on the blog, here is a post about Richard Avedon. I first discovered who Richard Avedon was when I was in Paris last fall. It was raining and our daily excursion was suppose to be to La Grande Mosquee, but instead we headed over to Musée du Jeu de Paume where there was an Avedon exhibit. Anyways, I was at Opening Ceremony in LA last weekend and came across a Richard Avedon book. Richard Avedon is one of the greatest fashion photographers ever. In 1946 he started taking photos for Vogue and Life, and eventually became Harper Bazaar’s go-to man. Outside of fashion, he also documented major historical events and figures like the Vietnam War, Marilyn Monroe, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, various U.S. Presidents, etc. His legendary work should definitely be checked out!
